Gurugram: Woman Arrested for Filing Fake Rape Complaint and Extorting ₹2 Lakh
On March 23, Gurugram police arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly filing a false gang rape complaint against two men and extorting ₹2 lakh from them. The complaint was lodged at Sector 53 Police Station, where she accused a Facebook friend and his companion of raping her in a paying guest accommodation in Sector 53.
The woman, who works as a web designer at a private media company in Noida, reportedly demanded ₹2 lakh from the accused for withdrawing her complaint. The money was transferred to her account by one of the victim’s brothers. She later demanded an additional ₹4 lakh.
According to Inspector Amit Kumar, the woman had earlier filed a similar complaint at Aman Vihar Police Station in Rohini, Delhi. However, during the court hearing to record her statement under Section 164 of the CrPC, she took back her claims.
“After she retracted her statement in court, we checked her background and found that she had lodged a similar complaint in Delhi. An investigation revealed that her accusations were false,” said Inspector Kumar.
Based on the findings, the police booked her under the following sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC):
- Section 384 – Extortion
- Section 385 – Putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion
- Section 389 – Threatening grievous harm to commit extortion
The woman was presented in court and has been sent to judicial custody.
