22-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Filing False Rape Complaint and Extortion

A 22-year-old woman was arrested on March 23 for allegedly filing a fake gang rape complaint against two men in Gurugram. The woman also extorted Rs 2 lakh from the men in exchange for withdrawing the false allegations. She had accused a Facebook friend and his companion of taking her to a paying guest accommodation (PG) in Sector 53, where they allegedly raped her.

The woman, who works as a web designer for a private media management company in Noida, had previously filed a similar rape complaint at Aman Vihar Police Station in Rohini, Delhi.

Extortion and False Allegations

The woman lodged the complaint on March 17 at the Sector 53 Police Station, accusing the two men of rape. She extorted Rs 2 lakh from them, which was transferred into her account by one of the victim’s brothers. Later, she demanded an additional Rs 4 lakh.

However, during a court hearing where her statement was recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), she retracted her statement.

Police Investigation

Inspector Amit Kumar stated, “We found out that she had also filed a similar rape complaint in Delhi earlier. Based on this, we began investigating her claims and found her accusations to be false.”

The woman has been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 384 (extortion), Section 385 (putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion), and Section 389 (putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt to commit extortion). She has been sent to judicial custody.
