22-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Filing False Rape Complaint in Gurugram

A 22-year-old woman was arrested on March 23 for allegedly making a false gang rape accusation against two men in Gurugram and extorting Rs 2 lakh from them to withdraw her complaint. She had accused a Facebook friend and his companion of taking her to a PG in Sector 53 and assaulting her.

Woman Had Filed Similar Complaint Before

The woman, a web designer at a Noida-based private media management company, had previously filed a similar complaint at Aman Vihar Police Station in Rohini, Delhi. Authorities became suspicious of her claims and launched an investigation, which led to her arrest. A city court sent her to judicial custody.

Police Investigation Reveals Truth

On March 17, the woman filed a rape complaint at Sector 53 Police Station and extorted Rs 2 lakh from the accused, which was transferred into her account by one of the victim’s brothers. She later demanded an additional Rs 4 lakh from them.

When presented in court for recording her statement under Section 164 of the CrPC, she retracted her allegations. Inspector Amit Kumar stated that further investigation revealed she had previously made similar false claims in Delhi. Upon verifying the facts, police confirmed that her accusations were baseless.

Legal Action Taken

The woman has been booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including:

Section 384 – Extortion
Section 385 – Putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion
Section 389 – Putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt to commit extortion

The case highlights the consequences of filing false complaints and the legal actions that follow such offenses.
