A shocking acid attack took place in Kanpur’s Cooperganj area on Saturday night, where a woman allegedly threw acid on her husband’s face after a fight over her late return home.
The victim, Dabbu Gupta, aged 40, has been admitted to Ursala Hospital for treatment. The local Collector Ganj police have registered a case and started investigating the matter.
In his statement, Dabbu told the police that his wife Poonam (35) returned home around 12:30 a.m.. When he questioned her about coming home so late, she got angry, leading to a heated argument. The fight soon turned physical, and during the altercation, Poonam picked up a bottle of acid from the bathroom and threw it at his face.
According to Dabbu, the argument escalated when Poonam hit him, and in response, he also retaliated. The situation worsened when Poonam, in a fit of rage, used the acid, causing serious injuries to Dabbu.
The police also spoke to local residents, who claimed that Gupta was addicted to alcohol and often fought with his wife. They believe that Poonam’s extreme action may have been the result of long-term stress due to her husband’s drinking habits and frequent quarrels.
Police are now investigating both sides of the story. The matter is being treated as a serious domestic violence case, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on further evidence.
