Five UP Policemen Suspended for Allegedly Torturing Youth Suspected of Cattle Theft

In a recent incident in Uttar Pradesh, five policemen, including a sub-inspector and four constables, were suspended after being accused of detaining and torturing a 20-year-old youth. The FIR against the policemen was filed on Saturday. They allegedly kept the youth in custody on suspicion of cattle theft in Budaun district.

The incident occurred on May 2. The youth, Rehan, a daily wage earner, was detained by Kakrala police while returning home from work. According to his relatives, he was suspected of having links with cattle smugglers. They claimed that Rehan was held for several hours and released only after his family paid a ₹5000 bribe.

Budaun’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Praveen Singh Chauhan, mentioned that Rehan’s family met with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Budaun, OP Singh, to lodge a complaint. An enquiry was ordered, and the charges of illegal detention and torture were directed at the Kakrala police outpost in-charge and four constables.

Dataganj Circle Officer Prem Kumar Thapa conducted the investigation and submitted his report on Saturday. Following the report, an FIR under sections for illegal confinement, torture, and the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the five policemen at Alapur police station. Further investigation is ongoing.

Rehan’s family alleged that he suffered injuries to his private parts from being brutally beaten and subjected to electric shocks while in police custody. Rehan is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bulandshahr.
