A horrifying event unfolded on March 12 in Tripura’s Khowai district, where a 40-year-old woman allegedly beheaded her 50-year-old husband. The gruesome act occurred at their home in Indira Colony, Ramchandraghat. Following the incident, the woman packed the severed head in a shopping bag and hung it from the ceiling before being arrested by the police.
According to the authorities, the woman reportedly stayed beside her husband’s body and the murder weapon, a traditional Tripuri machete called a takkal, throughout the night. When her brother and two minor sons witnessed the tragic scene, they fled and informed the police.
The incident took place around 2 a.m. while the husband was asleep. Police stated that the woman showed no prior signs of mental health issues, although some neighbors mentioned she had exhibited unusual behavior in recent days.
Upon reaching the house in the morning, the police found her sitting calmly with the weapon by her side and the body nearby. A senior officer revealed that their preliminary investigation showed no domestic disputes between the couple.
“We arrested her in the morning as women cannot be detained after sundown. She was presented in court and has been placed in judicial custody for 14 days,” the officer confirmed.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police are probing into the possible causes behind the gruesome crime.
