Tripura Woman Beheads Husband, Hangs Severed Head; Arrested
On March 12th, a horrific incident unfolded in Tripura’s Khowai district. A 40-year-old woman was arrested for beheading her 50-year-old husband at their home in Indira Colony, Ramchandraghat. The woman then packed the severed head in a shopping bag and hung it from the ceiling.
The woman reportedly stayed beside the body and the murder weapon, a traditional Tripuri machete called a takkal, throughout the night. Her brother and two minor sons discovered the gruesome scene around 2 am and immediately fled to inform the police. The police arrested her the next morning, as a woman cannot be arrested after sundown.
A senior state police officer, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that preliminary investigations revealed no apparent domestic issues between the couple. However, locals reported that the woman had shown signs of psychological disturbance in recent days, despite having no prior history of psychological problems.
Upon arrival, police found the woman sitting next to the murder weapon, with her husband’s body nearby. She was arrested and taken into judicial custody for 14 days by a local court.
This shocking case highlights the need for further investigation into the psychological state of the accused and the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
