Man Betrays Lover in Suicide Pact, Booked by Police in Prayagraj

Man Booked for Betraying Lover in Suicide Pact at Prayagraj

In a dramatic twist straight out of a Bollywood movie, a couple in Prayagraj decided to end their lives together, but the story took an unexpected turn when only the woman followed through with the pact.

The two lovers, who were already married to different people, faced societal pressures due to their extramarital affair. They decided to jump into the Yamuna River to escape their struggles. However, while the woman jumped, the man backed out, unwilling to risk his life.

Shocked by her partner’s betrayal, the woman, who knew how to swim, managed to return to the riverbank safely. The 32-year-old woman, a mother of a six-year-old daughter, has since filed an FIR against Chandu, a 30-year-old man from Jhunsi.

The woman revealed that she had been in a long-term relationship with Chandu. While she was in Pune with her daughter, Chandu secretly got married to another woman. When she returned to Prayagraj on May 18, she confronted him, leading to frequent arguments. Chandu promised to divorce his wife and marry her but kept delaying. After multiple disagreements, they decided to end their lives together.

On May 29, the pair met at the New Yamuna Bridge. According to the woman, she jumped first, but Chandu stayed back. She eventually swam to safety and later filed a complaint.

Circle Officer Santosh Singh confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Chandu for attempt to murder and for damaging the woman’s mobile phone. The woman was admitted to the hospital, and investigations are ongoing.
