To curb the rising cases of blackmail and honey trapping, the Rohtak police have decided to track women who file false complaints of rape and sexual exploitation. These women often extort money from the accused to withdraw their complaints.
“We will identify such complainants and maintain a database to prevent them from lodging false complaints at any police station in the district,” said Susheela Devi, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime against Women) in Rohtak.
This decision comes in response to the increasing number of false rape cases filed with the intent to blackmail the accused. In one instance, the police arrested a woman and her foster father for blackmailing a man they had accused of rape. The police team caught them red-handed while they were accepting a payment of Rs 7.5 lakh for settling the case.
In another case, a woman artist accused a man from Bhiwani of raping her. Upon investigation, it was revealed that she was already married, but her husband went missing. She later married another man and filed a case of rape and dowry harassment against him. Subsequently, she accused a man from Fazilka of rape at a Delhi police station. When the investigators discovered her history, they dropped the case.
By tracking women who lodge false complaints, the Rohtak police aim to reduce such incidents and ensure justice is served appropriately.
