Bengaluru Woman Alleges Misconduct by Rapido Driver; Police Dispute Claims

A 21-year-old dubbing artiste from Bengaluru has accused a Rapido bike-taxi driver of groping her during a ride two weeks ago. The woman, originally from Kolar district and now living in Hoodi, KR Puram, filed a police complaint alleging that the driver misbehaved with her.

The woman claimed that the incident occurred on October 30 at around 10:30 pm on Hennur service road. She said the driver, Manjunath Thippeswamy, 25, touched her private parts during the ride from Jakkur to Babusapalya. She filed the complaint the next day, providing the driver’s name and vehicle number (KA 51 H 5965).

The police registered a case of sexual harassment under IPC Section 354A against the driver and Rapido. However, their investigation suggested the complaint was false and filed with “malicious intent.”

An officer from Hennur police station stated, “She did not travel in the mentioned vehicle. The ride was cancelled. We have verified the trip history. The ride she described did not take place.”

The police believe the woman had issues with Rapido and used the complaint to cause trouble. The officer added, “She wasted our time. We will take appropriate action to ensure she doesn’t file such complaints in the future.” The case will be reported to higher authorities for further action.

Rapido has not yet commented on the incident.
