A 21-year-old man, Suraj, who was accused of raping his wife, tragically took his own life by jumping from the sixth floor of a Faridabad court building. The incident occurred on Saturday after his regular bail plea was heard.
Suraj, originally from Ghaziabad and employed at a private firm in Faridabad, had married the woman who accused him of rape. His parents claimed that following the marriage, the woman’s family began demanding increasing amounts of money from him. This financial pressure reportedly caused him significant distress.
On June 15, 2021, an FIR was filed against Suraj at Kheri Pul police station, and he was arrested a week later. He was granted interim bail on August 11, but on the day of his court hearing for regular bail, he appeared visibly troubled.
Suraj’s parents stated that they were standing some distance away when Suraj jumped from the court building. Emergency services arrived quickly, but doctors pronounced him dead at the hospital.
Suraj’s father revealed that the woman’s family initially demanded ₹5 lakh, which later increased to ₹10 lakh, and eventually to ₹15 lakh. The mounting financial demands reportedly led to Suraj’s deep distress. Despite this, Suraj’s parents have not filed any complaints against the woman or her family.
Inspector Virender Khatri, SHO of the central police station, confirmed that no complaint had been received from the deceased’s family. The body will be released to the family after the post-mortem examination.
