Man Accused of Raping Wife Commits Suicide Due to In-Laws’ Rs 15 Lakh Demand
A 21-year-old man accused of raping his wife committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of a Faridabad court building on Saturday. His regular bail plea had just been heard. The man, identified as Suraj, was reportedly upset because his in-laws were demanding Rs 15 lakh from him.
Suraj, who worked at a private firm in Faridabad, married the woman who had accused him of rape. His parents, who accompanied him to the court, claimed that the woman’s family started demanding money from him, which greatly distressed him.
On June 15, 2021, an FIR was registered against Suraj at the Kheri Pul police station, and he was arrested a week later. He was granted interim bail on August 11 and was attending the hearing for his regular bail plea when the incident occurred, according to the police.
Suraj’s parents said he appeared very disturbed after the hearing. They were standing some distance away when he jumped from the court building. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared brought dead by the doctors.
Suraj’s father stated that the demands from the woman’s parents started at Rs 5 lakh, then increased to Rs 10 lakh, and eventually to Rs 15 lakh. This ongoing pressure had deeply upset Suraj. Despite this, his parents have not filed a complaint against the woman or her family.
Inspector Virender Khatri, SHO of the central police station, said, “We have not received any complaint from the deceased’s family yet. The body will be handed over to the kin after the post-mortem.”
This tragic incident highlights the severe emotional toll that legal and financial pressures can impose.
