Pune Court Orders Daughter-in-Law to Vacate In-Laws’ Home for Harassment
A Pune magistrate court has directed a daughter-in-law to vacate her in-laws’ house within 15 days after finding her guilty of harassing them. The order came in response to a case under the Domestic Violence Act, filed by the woman in 2022 against her husband, in-laws, and other relatives.
Earlier in August 2022, the court had ordered that the woman be allowed to stay in one room of the bungalow owned by her in-laws. At that time, the court also directed her not to disturb the elderly couple, who were living alone as the woman’s husband worked in the United States.
However, the daughter-in-law reportedly continued to trouble her in-laws by damaging household items and creating mental and financial stress. Despite being a doctor, she is not currently practicing medicine.
Due to ongoing harassment, the in-laws filed a fresh application requesting the court to cancel the previous order that allowed her to stay in their home.
The court heard both sides and agreed that senior citizens deserve a peaceful living environment. Magistrate CK Shelke ruled that the daughter-in-law must vacate the house within 15 days. The court also instructed the husband to arrange alternative accommodation and pay ₹25,000 per month as rent for his wife.
