Pune Court Orders Daughter-in-Law to Vacate House for Harassing In-Laws
A Pune court has ruled that a daughter-in-law must vacate her in-laws’ house after she was found guilty of harassing them physically and financially. The court also ordered her husband to pay ₹25,000 per month to cover her rent.
Case Background
The issue began in 2022 when the daughter-in-law filed a domestic violence case against her husband, in-laws, and other relatives. During the hearing, the court ruled in August 2022 that she should be given a room in the family’s bungalow, which was owned by her parents-in-law. Her husband was living in America for work, and only three people resided in the bungalow.
Harassment of In-Laws
Despite the court’s order not to disturb the elderly in-laws, the daughter-in-law continued harassing them. She was accused of:
- Physically and financially harassing them
- Damaging household items
- Causing mental distress
Due to these continued issues, the in-laws filed an application in the Magistrate’s Court, requesting the withdrawal of the previous order that allowed their daughter-in-law to stay in the bungalow.
Court’s Decision
After hearing both sides, First-Class Magistrate CK Shelke ruled that:
- The daughter-in-law must vacate the house within 15 days.
- The husband must pay ₹25,000 per month to cover her rent.
Senior Citizens’ Right to a Peaceful Life
The advocate representing the in-laws argued that senior citizens have the right to live peacefully and should not suffer harassment from their daughter-in-law. The court agreed, prioritizing the well-being of the elderly parents-in-law.
This ruling reinforces the legal rights of senior citizens and highlights the importance of a peaceful home environment, even in family disputes.
