On 19th September, approximately 50 husbands gathered near Mumbai’s Banganga Tank to perform ‘pind daan’ (ritualistic offering of funeral cakes made of rice) for their living wives. These men are either divorced, separated, or embroiled in prolonged legal battles with their spouses in family courts.
The event, organized by the NGO Vaastav Foundation, is an annual occurrence held across various cities in India. It aims to support husbands who have endured harassment at the hands of their wives, particularly those facing cases under 498A (dowry harassment) and other legal disputes. The ceremony serves as a symbolic closure for these husbands, helping them cope with haunting memories and emotional trauma associated with their past relationships.
