Hyderabad Fireman Dies by Suicide After Harassment from Online Loan App Agents

In a tragic incident in Hyderabad, a 30-year-old fireman named Sudhakar allegedly died by suicide on July 19 after being harassed by agents of online loan apps. His body was found on the railway tracks near Shivarampally railway station, according to the police.

Sudhakar, who worked at the Chandulal Baradari fire station under the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services, had taken short-term loans from instant loan apps. Due to financial difficulties, he was unable to repay the loans on time.

According to his family, the loan recovery agents constantly harassed him. They reportedly abused him, threatened him, and even sent defaming messages to his friends and relatives, calling him a loan defaulter. Unable to handle the public humiliation and mental pressure, Sudhakar ended his life.

Police have registered a case under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which is used for investigating unnatural deaths.

This is not an isolated case. Many people have fallen into the trap of such instant loan apps. These apps offer easy and quick loans, but with very high interest rates and hidden processing charges. When borrowers fail to repay, the recovery agents use abusive methods—such as sending threats, spreading defaming messages, and even morphing images of victims into obscene pictures to scare them and their families.

Authorities have urged the public to be cautious while using such apps and report any harassment to the police immediately.
