In a disturbing incident in Uttar Pradesh, a group of youths assaulted a man for allegedly kissing his wife in public while bathing on the banks of the Saryu River in Ayodhya. The incident was captured on mobile phones by bystanders, and the video quickly went viral on social media on Wednesday evening.
In the viral video, the man is seen being dragged out of the Saryu River by a group of angry youths. The mob then abuses him, slaps him, and hits him multiple times.
One of the attackers can be heard saying, “This vulgarity will not be tolerated in Ayodhya.” Despite the wife’s efforts to protect her husband, she was overpowered as the mob pulled him out of the water and onto the riverbank.
According to reports quoting Shailesh Pandey, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Ayodhya, the video is about a week old, and no formal complaint has been filed regarding the incident. However, the police are trying to identify the couple involved, and if any First Information Report (FIR) is lodged, appropriate legal action will be taken against those responsible for the attack, added the SSP.
