Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case: Who Was Involved in Raja Raghuvanshi’s Death
The shocking Meghalaya honeymoon murder case has taken a serious turn with the arrest of five people, including the victim’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi. Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi was allegedly killed during a honeymoon trip to Meghalaya. His body was found in a deep gorge on June 2, ten days after the couple was reported missing.
Prime Accused: Wife Sonam Raghuvanshi
Police named Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raja’s wife, as the prime accused. She was found at a roadside dhaba in Ghazipur on June 9 and later taken into custody. Sonam reportedly hired contract killers for ₹20 lakh to kill her husband. Reports claim that she acted tired during a walk and stayed behind Raja, giving instructions to the other accused to attack him.
Sonam has denied the murder allegations and claimed she was abducted. However, she was placed in transit remand and will be taken to Shillong for further investigation. The couple got married on May 11 and began their honeymoon on May 20. Their scooter was found abandoned on May 24 near the Shillong–Sohra road, sparking a police search.
Other Accused and Their Roles
- Raj Singh Kushwaha – Alleged to be Sonam’s boyfriend and the mastermind behind the murder. He has been sent to seven-day transit remand.
- Akash Rajput (19) – Arrested from Lalitpur and sent on remand. He was reportedly one of the attackers.
- Vishal Singh Chauhan (22) – Caught in Indore. Police recovered clothes he wore in Shillong and are now searching for his phone. He admitted to being involved in the crime.
- Anand Kurmi – The fifth accused, originally from Bina, has also been arrested and placed under seven-day custody.
Police Statements and Confessions
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong confirmed that some of the accused confessed to the crime. All suspects were arrested from different states including Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Authorities planned to bring them all to Shillong for further questioning.
Local Guide Helps Identify Suspects
A local tourist guide, Albert Pde, who saw three men with the couple on the day they vanished, confirmed identifying one of the suspects from police photos. Pde said he was relieved that justice is being served and the region’s reputation is being protected.
