43-Year-Old Man Appeals to PMO After Being Falsely Accused of Rape by Partner
A 43-year-old businessman, Arnab Ganguly, has approached the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the Ministry of Women and Child Development, seeking justice after being falsely accused of rape by a woman he was in a relationship with.
In his petition, Arnab stated that men are often charged with rape for ending relationships, but in his case, he was falsely accused for staying committed. He claimed that the woman was never serious about marrying him and only wanted to continue their physical relationship.
Arnab, who moved to Gurugram in 2015 after his divorce, met the woman when she was working as an HR executive in his call centre. Their professional bond soon turned personal when she began confiding in him about her troubled marriage. Having gone through a divorce himself, Arnab offered emotional support.
Eventually, the woman confessed her love to Arnab. Wanting a serious relationship at his age, Arnab asked if she was willing to divorce her husband. She agreed and promised marriage. Only then, he said, did their relationship turn physical.
However, Arnab soon sensed hesitation from her side about marriage. When he expressed his plan to meet her family on March 6 last year, she suddenly took a step back. Just four days before his visit to Delhi, the Delhi Police arrested him at his Kolkata residence on rape charges.
Arnab spent eight months in Tihar Jail and fought a six-year-long legal battle to prove his innocence.
In his petition, he questioned, “If a woman promises marriage, becomes physically intimate, and later backs out—can she still accuse the man of rape?” He highlighted how such laws can be misused and demanded a review to protect innocent men from legal harassment.
