A tragic incident unfolded outside Jigani police station near Hebbagodi, Karnataka, when a 38-year-old man set himself on fire after an argument with his wife. The man, identified as Ratesh, poured petrol on himself and ignited the fire on August 25.
Ratesh’s act of self-immolation came after a heated dispute with his wife, Kavitha, with whom he had been married for 10 years. Over the past five years, the couple had been struggling with frequent disagreements over minor issues. On the day of the incident, Kavitha, frustrated with the situation, called her father and went to the police station to file a complaint against her husband.
Ratesh, who followed his wife to the police station, parked his bike outside, poured petrol over himself, and set himself on fire. The police quickly intervened, extinguishing the flames and rushing him to the hospital. However, the victim had sustained severe burns, covering over 80% of his body, and sadly, he did not survive.
Originally from Chikkamagaluru, Ratesh worked at a private company in the Jigani Industrial Area. This heartbreaking event highlights the tragic consequences of unresolved marital conflicts.
