A 29-year-old man from Ahmedabad has approached the police, seeking protection from his wife, whom he claims is an alcoholic and has been torturing him both mentally and physically. The man, who married his wife in March 2018, stated that he only discovered her addiction to alcohol after their wedding.
Allegations of Cruelty and Abuse
The man explained that his wife pressured him to leave his elderly parents’ home to live with her separately. However, when his parents contracted COVID-19 in June, he moved back to their house to take care of them. Despite this, his wife moved to the first floor of the house but refused to assist in caring for his sick parents. Instead, she allegedly demanded that the ownership of the house be transferred to her name, threatening to commit suicide if her demand was not met.
False Accusations and Physical Abuse
The situation worsened when, on September 11, 2020, his wife filed a complaint against him and his family, accusing them of cruelty. The man claims that she continues to live on the first floor of their home, regularly physically abusing him after drinking alcohol. He further stated that she often calls a women’s helpline and makes false allegations against him.
Seeking Police Protection
Fearing for his safety and that of his elderly parents, the man has requested police protection. The police have acknowledged his complaint, and the Khokhra Police Station’s inspector, YS Gamit, stated that they will take appropriate action after verifying the details provided in the man’s application.
This case highlights the complex issues of domestic abuse and marital disputes, with growing concerns over false allegations and the need for legal protection.
