Man Marries Twin Sisters in Maharashtra; Non-Cognizable Offence Registered

In a bizarre incident from Maharashtra, a man from Solapur married twin sisters from Mumbai. The wedding took place on December 2 at a hotel in Malegaon village on Akluj Welapur Road in Akluj taluka.

Both sisters, 36-year-old IT professionals, chose to marry the same man because they couldn’t bear to part ways after marriage. Both families agreed to the twins’ unusual request, according to police officials.

Videos of the ceremony have gone viral on social media, showing the names of the brides and groom prominently and attendees cheering for the twins.

Following the viral videos, a social worker from Akluj approached the Solapur district police to complain about the incident.

An offence under Section 494 of the Indian Penal Code (marrying again during the lifetime of a husband or wife) has been registered against the groom at Akluj police station. Deputy Superintendent of Police Basavraj Shivpuje stated, “Since it is a non-cognizable offence, we will be approaching the court on Monday to seek permission to conduct a probe.”

Solapur rural superintendent of police Shirish Sardeshpande added, “We have preliminary information that both sisters are very close and wanted to stay together. Further investigation is underway.”
