In a shocking incident at a family court in Karnataka, a man killed his wife by slitting her throat with a machete just after a divorce counselling session. The couple had come to the Holenarasipura family court in Hassan district to try and save their seven-year marriage.
During the session, the couple — Shivakumar and Chaitra — reportedly agreed to put their past behind and reunite. However, just after the one-hour counselling ended, Shivakumar followed Chaitra to the washroom and attacked her with a machete, causing serious neck injuries.
She was immediately rushed to a hospital but died during treatment due to heavy blood loss. Shivakumar tried to run from the spot, but bystanders caught him and handed him over to the police.
Police have charged Shivakumar with murder. Officers are investigating how he managed to bring a weapon inside the court premises, which is supposed to be a secure area.
Senior police official Hariram Shankar said, “We have arrested the accused and seized the weapon. We are investigating whether this was a planned murder and how he brought the weapon into the court.”
The incident has raised serious concerns about security in court premises and the safety of individuals attending counselling or legal proceedings.
