Man Commits Suicide Due to Harassment, Body Found on Railway Tracks in Hyderabad
A 30-year-old man in Hyderabad allegedly committed suicide on July 19 after being harassed by agents of online loan apps over repayment issues. The man’s body, identified as Sudhakar, was discovered on railway tracks near a station, according to the police.
Sudhakar, who worked at a fire station in Hyderabad, had taken loans from several instant loan apps. However, due to financial difficulties, he was unable to repay them. His family reported that agents from these loan apps harassed and abused him, sending defamatory messages to his contacts, including relatives, and labeling him as a loan defaulter. Unable to bear this harassment, Sudhakar took his own life.
The police recovered his body from the railway tracks near Shivarampally railway station. Sudhakar was a fireman with the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services, stationed at the Chandulal Baradari fire station. A case has been registered under Section 174 of the CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure) against the loan app organization.
This tragic incident is part of a growing trend where online loan apps offer quick and easy loans but later resort to harassment and threats for recovery. There have been reports of recovery agents threatening to morph victims’ images into nude photographs and share them with their contacts to pressure them into repayment.
Case Title: Sudhakar v. Online Loan App Organization
