In Baksa district of Assam, a shocking incident occurred where a 23-year-old computer teacher, Jyotish Das, was beaten for taking a selfie with his female assistant. Jyotish has been working at a private computer training institute for the past ten months.
On May 23, 2020, members of the All Bodo Students Union stormed into Jyotish’s office, confiscated his phone, and forcibly took him to their office. There, they brutally assaulted him and questioned his reasons for taking a selfie with a girl from the Bodo community.
Jyotish explained that the girl was his friend, and their interactions were purely friendly. He even showed them their text messages to clarify the situation, but this only led to further violence against him.
The situation escalated due to a boy from the girl’s community who reportedly had feelings for her. He suspected Jyotish of having a relationship with her, which led to the attack.
The incident took a turn when Jyotish’s mother arrived to rescue her son. Following the assault, the boy’s family lodged an FIR against the attackers, seeking justice for Jyotish.
This disturbing case highlights the consequences of miscommunication and local tensions, emphasizing the need for peaceful resolution and legal action against such acts of violence.
