Karnataka Woman Extorts Rs 21 Lakh from Techie Ex-Boyfriend After Breakup
In a shocking case of betrayal and extortion, a software engineer from Andhra Pradesh was allegedly assaulted and extorted of ₹21 lakh and several valuable items by his ex-girlfriend and her relatives. The incident occurred at a resort near Nandi Hills, Karnataka, on June 16 and 17.
The victim, Vijay Singh, a resident of Anantapur, works for an IT company. He had been in a relationship with Bhavana Reddy from Proddatur for over 18 months. Bhavana’s father had earlier asked for time to arrange their marriage. However, the couple broke up a few weeks before the incident.
According to the police, Vijay was invited to a party by Bhavana’s relative, Pulla Reddy. Once Vijay arrived at Devanahalli, he was taken to a nearby resort where Pulla Reddy and others attacked him using pepper spray, a belt, and a rope—causing severe injuries. During the assault, they made a video call to Bhavana Reddy to show Vijay’s condition.
On the following day, Bhavana arrived at the resort. She verbally abused Vijay and demanded ₹30 lakh, warning him not to disclose their past relationship. When Vijay said he only had ₹8 lakh, she forced him to take a loan using a mobile app. Once the loan was approved and ₹21 lakh was credited to his account, Bhavana made him transfer ₹15 lakh to her relative Nageswara Reddy and ₹5 lakh to another associate, Sudhir. Two other accomplices received ₹50,000 each.
In addition to the money, they snatched his gold chain, laptop, and iPhone. Bhavana then drove Vijay to Bengaluru and abandoned him near Vidyaranyapura.
Following the complaint filed by Vijay Singh on June 19, the Nandi Hills police registered a case and arrested Bhavana Reddy and Pulla Reddy. The investigation is ongoing.
