In a shocking incident at Nandi Hills, Karnataka, a software engineer was allegedly assaulted and extorted by his ex-girlfriend, Bhavana Reddy, and her relatives. The victim, Vijay Singh, was forced to part with Rs 21 lakh and valuables such as a gold chain, a laptop, and an iPhone after the couple’s breakup.
The incident took place on June 16 and 17 at a resort near Nandi Hills. Vijay Singh, a resident of Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, works at an IT company in the same city. He had been in a relationship with Bhavana Reddy from Proddatur for about one-and-a-half years. Bhavana’s father, Venkateswara Reddy, had asked for time to arrange their wedding. However, their relationship soured, leading to a breakup a few weeks before the extortion incident.
On June 16, Pulla Reddy, a relative of Bhavana, invited Vijay to a party. When Vijay arrived at Devanahalli, Pulla Reddy and his associates took him to a resort near Nandi Hills. There, they sprayed pepper spray on his face, tied him up, and beat him with a belt and rope, causing injuries to his back and thighs. They then made a video call to Bhavana to show her Vijay’s condition.
The next day, Bhavana arrived at the scene, verbally abused Vijay, and demanded Rs 30 lakh. She insisted that Vijay should never disclose their past relationship. When Vijay said he only had Rs 8 lakh, Bhavana forced him to apply for a loan using a mobile app. Once the loan was approved, and Rs 21 lakh was in his account, Bhavana pressured him to transfer Rs 15 lakh to her relative, Nageswara Reddy, and Rs 5 lakh to another associate, Sudhir.
Additionally, Rs 50,000 each was transferred to two other accomplices of Pulla Reddy. The gang then snatched Vijay’s gold chain, laptop, and iPhone before abandoning him near Vidyaranyapura, Bengaluru.
Vijay filed a police complaint on June 19, leading to the arrest of Bhavana Reddy and Pulla Reddy. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
