Indian Student Killed in Ukraine: Father Blames Education System for Lack of Medical Seat

The father of Naveen Shekharappa, an Indian student who was killed in a Russian rocket attack in Ukraine, has criticized India’s education system. Despite scoring 97% in his Pre-University Course (PUC), Naveen could not secure a medical seat in India.

He explained, “Getting a medical seat in India requires spending crores of rupees. Many students are now opting to study abroad for a similar education at a lower cost.” He added that he found it would cost between Rs 85 lakh and Rs 1 crore to enroll Naveen in a private medical college in India. As a result, he chose to send Naveen to Ukraine, which unfortunately turned out to be more expensive.

The father expressed deep frustration with the political and education systems in India, citing issues with casteism and the dominance of private institutions.
