In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old IIT-JEE aspirant from Uttar Pradesh, Satyaveer alias Raunak, was allegedly beaten to death by fellow students in Kota, Rajasthan. The attack took place after a heated argument at a tea stall in the Indira Vihar area late on Monday, November 11th.
Satyaveer, who had been studying in Kota for the past year and a half to prepare for the IIT-JEE exam, was attacked with iron rods by a group of youths following the argument. Despite being rushed to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Tuesday.
Hailing from Karmakar village in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, Satyaveer was the only son of Tarkeshwar Singh, a vendor by profession. His father, devastated by the news, traveled to Kota along with other family members to collect his son’s body. Tarkeshwar received a call from the Kota police on Tuesday morning, informing him of his son’s death, followed by a call from his wife, Reema, who was living with Raunak in Kota.
According to the police, Satyaveer had gone back to his room after the argument and assault, but his condition worsened later that night. Fellow students helped transport him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he could not survive the injuries.
The police have identified six out of the eight suspects involved in the incident and have registered a case under relevant sections of the law. However, Satyaveer’s father has demanded that the accused be charged with murder.
Satyaveer had been a student at Sarasvati Vidya Mandir in Gorakhpur before moving to Kota to prepare for the IIT-JEE exam. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many questioning the safety of students in Kota, a major hub for competitive exam coaching.
