Husbands Perform ‘Pind Daan’ for Living Wives in Mumbai

On September 19th, around 50 husbands performed ‘Pind Daan’ (a ritual offering for deceased relatives) for their still-living wives at Banganga Tank, Mumbai. These men are either divorced, separated, or involved in long-running legal battles with their wives in family courts.

‘Pind Daan’ is traditionally a Hindu ceremony where prayers and offerings are made for the peace of departed souls. However, in this unusual event, it symbolized the husbands letting go of their emotional attachment and memories of their estranged wives.

The event was organized by Vaastav Foundation, an NGO that supports men facing harassment in marital relationships. The foundation’s president stated that they organize such events annually across different cities in India for husbands who have experienced distress due to their wives. Many of these men are either going through divorce or dealing with legal cases related to Section 498A, dowry, and other marital issues.

The participating husbands expressed that their wives had exploited their rights and freedoms, leaving them emotionally detached. The ritual was intended to help them move on from the painful memories of their relationships.
