A 38-year-old man from Hyderabad, M. Venkat Reddy, tragically ended his life after suffering ongoing harassment from his wife and in-laws. Reddy, a resident of Kushaiguda, consumed pesticide on July 2, 2023, following a heated altercation with his wife, Kalyani, and her parents. Despite efforts to save him, he passed away in the hospital on July 5.
The Family Dispute
The incident stemmed from domestic disputes between Reddy, his wife, and her parents. Kalyani was reportedly unhappy living with her mother-in-law and pressured Reddy to send his mother away. For months, Reddy had been dealing with tension in the family due to this issue. Two months before the incident, Kalyani had left their home and stayed with her parents in Warangal.
On the day of the tragedy, Kalyani, along with her parents, came to Reddy’s house and demanded that he separate from his mother and transfer the family property to their two young daughters, aged seven and two-and-a-half years. The argument escalated, with the family insisting on their demands.
The Tragic Incident
Venkat Reddy pleaded with them to keep their voices down, fearing that the loud altercation would bring shame to the family in the neighborhood. However, his requests were ignored. Feeling overwhelmed and insulted, Reddy told them that if the harassment continued, he would end his life. His wife and in-laws, instead of taking the threat seriously, taunted him, saying he wouldn’t dare to do it.
Deeply hurt and humiliated, Reddy consumed pesticide later that day in a desperate act. His family rushed him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to the poisoning on July 5.
Legal Action
Following the incident, Venkat Reddy’s sister lodged a police complaint against Kalyani and her parents, accusing them of harassment and contributing to her brother’s tragic death. The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
This heartbreaking incident sheds light on the devastating impact of domestic disputes and family pressure, highlighting the importance of addressing mental health issues and family conflicts sensitively.
