A 29-year-old man from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, has requested police protection, alleging that his wife, who he claims is an alcoholic, tortures him both physically and mentally. The man has filed an official application with the police, seeking their assistance in ensuring his safety.
According to the man, he married his wife in March 2018. However, he discovered her addiction to alcohol only after they were married. He claims that his wife pressured him to move out of his elderly parents’ home and live separately with her.
In June, when his parents contracted COVID-19, the man returned to their home to take care of them. His wife moved to the first floor of the house but did not assist in caring for his sick parents. Instead, she demanded that the ownership of the house be transferred to her and threatened to end her life if her demands were not met.
On September 11, 2020, the man’s wife filed a complaint against him and his family, accusing them of cruelty. The man alleges that she continues to live on the first floor, beats him after consuming alcohol, and then calls a women’s helpline to make false accusations against him.
Due to these incidents, the man has sought police protection for himself and his parents. Inspector YS Gamit from Khokhra police station stated that they will take action after verifying the details in the man’s application.
