A man from Porbandar, Gujarat, has filed a petition to annul his marriage after learning that his wife, whom he met through a matrimonial website, is a wanted criminal in Assam. Vimal Karia married Rekha Das, who he later found out was actually a notorious gangster accused of serious crimes, including robbery, theft, murder, and illegal hunting.
Vimal met Rekha, who posed as a religious woman, on a matrimonial site. The couple decided to get married after a brief courtship, despite Vimal’s initial concerns about Rekha’s past. She misled him about her previous marriage, claiming it was conducted in a panchayat, which is why she lacked a legal marriage certificate.
Six months after the wedding, Rekha left Vimal, saying she needed to settle a land dispute in Assam. She never returned. Suspicious, Vimal started digging into her past and discovered that Rekha was not only married before but was also a wanted criminal, using the alias Rekha Chauhan.
Further investigation revealed that Rekha had been arrested in connection with a BMW theft case involving the Assam Assembly. She had gained access to the premises with the help of her friend, former MLA Rumi Nath, who was unaware of her criminal activities. Vimal confirmed her criminal background through online searches, prompting him to take legal action to annul the marriage.
