Ghaziabad Woman’s Gang-Rape Claim Fabricated Over Property Dispute, Say Police
A few days ago, a 36-year-old woman from Ghaziabad filed a police complaint alleging she was gang-raped by five men. However, police now claim the woman made up the story to frame the men due to a property dispute.
Praveen Kumar, UP’s regional police chief, said on Thursday, “She was with two of her friends for the two days she claimed to have been kidnapped and raped.”
The case gained attention when the woman, a Delhi resident, was hospitalized at GTB Hospital on Wednesday. Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal tweeted that the woman was found wrapped in a jute bag with her hands and legs tied, and an iron rod inserted in her private parts.
Police had initially arrested four of the five men and filed a case but noted the ongoing property dispute. The woman was first taken to a government hospital in Ghaziabad and then asked to move to Meerut for a medical examination, which she refused.
She insisted on being admitted to GTB Hospital in Delhi, where doctors later denied finding any internal injury. Mobile signal tracking revealed one of her friends turned off his phone near the spot where she was found, raising suspicions.
The woman claimed she was kidnapped while waiting for a bus to Delhi after a birthday party in Ghaziabad. She said five men dragged her into a car and raped her. However, police found evidence suggesting the complaint was a conspiracy to falsely accuse the five men.
Praveen Kumar added, “One of the friends gave money via PayTM to publicize the rape case. That friend already has three criminal cases against him.”
There has been no immediate reaction from the victim or Swati Maliwal following the police’s revelation that the rape case was fabricated.
