Woman Fined for Filing False Rape Case Against Husband

On Wednesday, a special court dealing with Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act cases fined a woman ₹20,000 for falsely accusing her husband of raping her minor sister in 2019.

Special Judge Mahendra Srivastava, who presided over the case, determined that the rape allegations were untrue based on the evidence presented during the trial.

The woman, from Nalluthukuli village near Pollachi, had reported to the all-woman police team that her husband had repeatedly raped her 16-year-old sister, who was living with them after their parents’ death. Consequently, the police filed charges under sections 5(l), (n) and 6 of the Pocso Act, along with Section 506(i) of the Indian Penal Code, and arrested the husband.

However, during the trial, the minor girl testified that her brother-in-law had not raped her. Based on this testimony and other evidence, the court acquitted the husband and imposed a fine on his wife for the false allegations.
