In a landmark decision, Egypt’s Directorate of Social Affairs in Giza has approved the establishment of the Egyptian Association for the Defense of the Rights of Men and Children. This marks the first time a group dedicated to defending men’s rights in family law has been created in the country.
Ahmed Matar Rizk, a lawyer and the chairman of the association’s board, told Al-Sharqiya that the association aims to preserve the integrity of Egyptian families and address the rising number of divorce cases. Rizk emphasized that the primary goal is to safeguard men’s legal rights, shielding them from abuse, harassment, imprisonment, and loss of child custody when a wife initiates divorce proceedings.
Until now, existing laws have primarily protected women in cases of divorce initiated by the wife.
