Delhi Woman in Burqa Steals ₹15 Lakh Gold from Mother’s House Due to Jealousy

A shocking incident in Delhi’s Sewak Park, Uttam Nagar, came to light on January 30, when Kamlesh (65) filed a police complaint about a burglary at her residence. The theft included gold coins, necklaces, earrings worth ₹15 lakh, and ₹25,000 in cash.

Police Investigation and Shocking Discovery

During the investigation, CCTV footage showed a burqa-clad woman carrying a yellow bag entering the house between 2 PM and 2:30 PM. Upon further scrutiny, police discovered that the suspect was none other than Kamlesh’s elder daughter, Shweta (31).

Motive Behind the Theft

According to the police, Shweta was envious of her younger sister, Monica, as she believed their mother favored her. With Monica’s wedding approaching, Shweta stole the jewelry set aside for the occasion.

Additionally, Shweta had financial struggles, including a ₹90,000 debt to her mother, who was pressuring her to repay in small installments. She also owed ₹1.5 lakh to various people.

How the Crime Was Executed

On January 30, Shweta stole the house keys and pretended to go buy vegetables. She then traveled to Uttam Nagar West Metro Station, where she changed into a burqa in a washroom before heading to her mother’s house to commit the theft.

Confession and Arrest

The police arrested Shweta from her Mohan Garden residence on Saturday. During interrogation, she admitted to the crime, stating that jealousy and financial struggles led her to steal from her own family.

Shweta later expressed regret and revealed that she had already sold some of the stolen jewelry at a local shop.

Family Background and Legal Action

  • Kamlesh is a pensioner; her husband, a government servant, passed away in 1997.
  • Monica works for an AI company in Delhi.
  • Shweta is a housewife and mother of a four-year-old girl. Her husband, who works in Noida, was unaware of her plans.

The police registered an FIR under IPC Section 380 (theft from a dwelling house). Investigations are ongoing to recover the stolen items.
