A 20-year-old Delhi University (DU) student, Himanshu Sharma, was allegedly abducted from near his home in northeast Delhi and taken to Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, where he was beaten to death on Saturday.
Police said the girl’s family, accused in the case, claimed Himanshu had raped and blackmailed their 19-year-old daughter. However, Himanshu’s mother, Rajni Sharma, strongly denied these allegations, calling them “false and fabricated.”
According to Rajni, her son received a call from the girl’s phone on Saturday before he left home. Soon after, four to five family members of the girl allegedly kidnapped him and later killed him. An FIR has been registered against seven people, including the girl’s mother, while police confirmed the arrest of two accused.
Rajni, who has been raising Himanshu and his younger sister alone for 12 years, recounted that she grew suspicious when Himanshu did not return home after being “invited to a birthday party.” Later that evening, she was informed by a woman from the neighbourhood that her son had been kidnapped. The woman even showed her a video call where Himanshu was seen in custody, with threats that he would be killed.
Rajni said she was taken to a forest in Baghpat, where she saw her son bleeding inside a car with a Delhi number plate. Before she could rush him to a hospital, the police arrived and arrested two suspects.
When asked if Himanshu was in a relationship with the girl, his family said they had no knowledge of it. His grieving mother questioned, “If they had any problem, why didn’t they speak to me first? Did they have to kill him?”
