In a bizarre incident from Delhi, a 14-year-old girl fabricated a story of molestation to avoid her parents’ scolding for poor exam results. The girl injured herself with a blade and claimed she was harmed during a fight and molested.
The girl initially alleged that after school, three boys got into a scuffle and injured her hands. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case under the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to molestation and kidnapping.
However, the case was withdrawn when the girl confessed to making up the story. Deputy Commissioner of Police Joy Tirkey explained, “When we scanned CCTV footage, we saw the girl roaming alone. After counseling her, our lady staff learned that on March 15, the day of her social studies exam, she was afraid of being scolded by her parents for not doing well. She bought some eatables and a blade from a store, then injured herself while sitting alone.”
The incident was reported on March 15 at the Bhajanpura police station in northeast Delhi. Based on her confession, the case has been canceled, the DCP added.
