The Delhi Crime Branch has exposed shocking new details in the murder case of Anjan Das. Special CP Crime, Ravinder Yadav, stated that Das was murdered before June 5, when parts of his mutilated body were discovered stuffed in a bag at Ramlila Ground in Kalyanpuri, East Delhi.
The accused, Poonam, confessed to the crime after learning that her husband, Anjan Das, had a secret family in Bihar. She was furious when she discovered he had sold her jewelry and sent the money to his first wife, who lived with their eight children. Poonam also revealed that Das had inappropriate intentions towards her stepdaughter and her stepson’s wife, which led her and her son, Deepak, to plan his murder.
According to police, Deepak agreed to the plan because Das had allegedly been harassing his wife. They poisoned Das by spiking his drink, and once he was unconscious, they killed him. They left the body in the house overnight to let the blood dry before Deepak dismembered the body the next day. The body parts were stored in a fridge, packed in plastic bags, and disposed of later.
The decomposing body began to emit a foul odor, and to cover it up, Poonam and Deepak had their house painted. However, neighbors complained about the smell, which led the police to investigate further. After body parts were discovered in June, CCTV footage and door-to-door checks helped police identify Das. When the police noticed Das had been missing for six months without a missing person report, suspicion grew.
Both Poonam and Deepak were arrested after police surveillance showed them entering and leaving a vacant plot of land. Poonam admitted to the crime and told media, “He had bad intentions towards my children, so I did it. My son killed him with a knife.”
Poonam had been married at 14 to Sukhdev Tiwari, who later abandoned her. She then moved to Delhi and eventually met Anjan Das after a previous relationship with another man, Kallu, ended with his death in 2016. Poonam married Das in 2017, unaware that he had a family in Bihar.
So far, police have recovered six parts of Das’s body. Investigations continue, with CCTV footage showing the mother-son duo disposing of the remains at odd hours.
