Class 9 Boy Dies by Suicide Allegedly Due to Teacher Harassment

On August 22, 2022, a 14-year-old Class 9 student from Padi, Tamil Nadu, died by suicide at home. The boy, identified as S Bharathi Selva, reportedly took the step after facing alleged harassment by his school teachers.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The boy was alone at home when the incident occurred. His parents were at work, and his elder brother was at college. When his brother returned home around 5:30 PM, he found Bharathi dead.

Evidence of Harassment Found

Police recovered two videos recorded by the student before his death. In the videos, he alleged harassment by his class teachers. A separate video showed him taking his own life.

Police Investigation Ongoing

The Korattur police have registered a case and are questioning school authorities as part of the investigation. The boy’s body was sent to a government hospital for post-mortem examination.

This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for addressing mental health concerns and creating safe environments for students in schools.
