Mumbai CA Chirag Varaiya Dies by Suicide in Igatpuri Resort
Mumbai-based chartered accountant Chirag Varaiya allegedly died by suicide at a bungalow in Igatpuri on Sunday night. Police revealed that Varaiya was booked by the Bhandup police three weeks ago, which might have caused him significant stress.
Incident Details
According to the police, Varaiya was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the Vivaant bungalows, a chain of luxury accommodations. A suicide note written in English was recovered, in which Varaiya apologized to his family and asked his wife to take care of their children.
Police Investigation
On Friday, Varaiya informed his employer that he needed a weekend to relax and requested a company car and driver, which were provided. He traveled alone to the Igatpuri resort. On Saturday, he told the driver that they would return to the city on Monday and instructed not to be disturbed until then. When the driver tried to contact Varaiya on Monday morning, there was no response, and his phone was switched off.
Police arrived at the scene, broke open the door, and found Varaiya deceased.
Conclusion
The police suspect that stress from the FIR filed against him could have led Varaiya to take this extreme step. An officer from the Igatpuri police stated that they are currently recording statements to gather more information about the incident.
