The Delhi police have registered a case against a mother in Karawal Nagar for tying her 5-year-old daughter’s hands and legs with a rope and leaving her on a rooftop under the scorching sun as punishment for not completing her homework.
Incident Details
The shocking incident occurred in Tukhmirpur, Delhi, and was captured on video. The footage shows the young girl struggling to free herself while enduring the blazing heat. Her screams of pain are heard as her skin appeared to burn under the harsh sun.
The mother has been charged under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, which penalizes cruelty to children.
Family’s Statements
The girl’s uncle, Sunil, revealed that the mother often gets angry and resorts to extreme punishments. He said, “She tied her daughter and left her on the rooftop in the sun because she didn’t do her homework. When we found out, we immediately brought the child down.”
Sunil also described the mother as having a short temper, often beating her children over minor issues. He added, “If anyone from the family intervenes, she claims she has sole rights over her kids. She wasn’t like this before; her behavior has changed in the past two to three years.”
The child’s aunt, Pooja, echoed similar concerns, stating that the mother frequently picks fights with family members and treats her 6-year-old son the same way. “If we try to stop her, she becomes more aggressive and punishes the kids even further,” she said.
Community’s Observations
Pradeep, a neighbor, shared that the mother’s behavior is well-known in the area. “She has a history of extreme punishments. Once, she made her son stand naked in winter on the street. Neighbors had to step in and provide clothes,” he recalled.
Mother’s Explanation
When questioned by the police, the mother admitted to punishing her daughter for 5–7 minutes for not doing her homework and claimed she brought her down soon after.
Legal Action
The police traced the family after the video went viral on social media. A case has been registered against the mother, highlighting the serious implications of such cruel punishments.
