The Calcutta High Court recently suggested that a couple, separated for eight years, spend two days together at Eco Park to try and resolve their differences. After this, they are to inform the court about their decision regarding their future.
The couple got married eight years ago. The husband, an engineer, works for the state government, while the wife is an IT professional in Sector V. They lived together for only three months before the wife moved back with her parents. Despite their separation, neither party sought a formal divorce for over seven years.
Six months ago, the wife filed a case under the Domestic Violence Act of 2005, alleging that her husband was withholding some of her jewelry. To avoid arrest, the husband applied for anticipatory bail at the High Court.
Justice Kausik Chanda, who was handling the case, decided to speak with the couple personally. They met him in his chamber at the High Court. When asked if they were open to reconciliation, both the husband and the wife expressed willingness to try.
Justice Chanda then suggested they spend two days together and return to court afterward. His office arranged for the couple to stay at Eco Park, providing them with a chance to work through their issues. The couple agreed to this plan and decided to use this time to resolve their differences.
