Calcutta High Court Urges Estranged Couple to Reconcile with 48-Hour Eco Park Stay
The Calcutta High Court on Friday urged a couple, separated for eight years, to try and resolve their differences by spending 48 hours together at Eco Park. This attempt at reconciliation aims to help them decide on their future together.
The couple married eight years ago. The husband, an engineer, works for the state government, while the wife is an IT professional in Sector V. They lived together for only three months before the wife moved back with her parents. Despite their separation, neither pursued formal legal separation for seven and a half years.
Six months ago, the wife filed a case under the Domestic Violence Act 2005, accusing her husband of withholding some of her jewelry. The husband, fearing arrest, sought anticipatory bail from the High Court.
Justice Kausik Chanda, who was handling the case, wanted to speak to the couple personally. During their meeting in his High Court chamber, both expressed a willingness to reconcile. The judge then proposed they spend two days together before he heard their case again.
Justice Chanda’s office took the initiative to arrange suitable accommodation for the couple, selecting Eco Park as the venue. After spending two days together, the couple decided to work on sorting out their differences.
This unique approach by the Calcutta High Court aims to provide the couple with an opportunity to resolve their issues and potentially rebuild their relationship after years of separation.
