Bride Attacks Fiancé in Andhra Pradesh to Avoid Arranged Marriage
In a shocking incident from Andhra Pradesh, a 22-year-old woman attacked her fiancé, Ramanaidu, by slitting his throat during a surprise date. The engagement, arranged by her family against her wishes, had left the woman deeply troubled. The incident took place near Kommalapudi village in Anakapalle district, at a secluded spot close to Vishwa Santhi Jyothirmayi Ashram.
The Attack and Its Aftermath
The woman lured Ramanaidu, a 28-year-old research scholar from Visakhapatnam, to an isolated location. She had purchased a knife on their way and attacked him. After the attack, the injured man used his dupatta to control the bleeding and attempted to seek help. Despite his severe injuries, he managed to take the woman on his scooter until he felt too weak to continue. Passersby eventually noticed them and rushed him to a hospital.
Doctors reported that while the cuts were not deep, the injury caused heavy bleeding due to superficial veins being severed. Ramanaidu is now recovering.
Woman’s Confession
During the investigation, the woman admitted to the attack, stating that she did not want to marry and desired a peaceful, single life dedicated to spirituality. She confessed that fear of confronting her family and fiancé led her to this extreme act.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sunil Kumar revealed that the woman was emotionally distressed and had suicidal thoughts following the incident. She has been charged under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder) and is currently in judicial custody.
Engagement and Family Pressure
Ramanaidu and the woman had been engaged on April 4 in an arrangement made by their families. The woman’s unwillingness to marry stemmed from her desire to remain single and lead a spiritual life. However, she felt trapped and unable to voice her concerns, resulting in the tragic incident.
