Bengaluru Woman Accuses Rapido Driver of Misconduct, Police Call It False

A 21-year-old dubbing artist from Bengaluru has accused a Rapido bike-taxi driver of inappropriate behavior, claiming he groped her during a ride on October 30. The woman, originally from Kolar and now residing in KR Puram, East Bengaluru, filed a police complaint the next day, alleging that the driver, identified as 25-year-old Manjunath Thippeswamy, had touched her inappropriately while driving on Hennur service road at around 10:30 PM.

The woman said she had booked the ride from Jakkur to Babusapalya. She provided the driver’s name and vehicle number (KA 51 H 5965) in her complaint, resulting in a sexual harassment case under IPC Section 354A being filed against both the driver and Rapido.

However, the police, after verifying the ride history, concluded that the ride in question never took place, as it had been canceled before it started. An officer from the Hennur police station stated, “The complaint appears to be false and was filed with malicious intent, as the ride was never completed.”

The police indicated that the woman may have had personal issues with Rapido and that the complaint was a deliberate attempt to misuse the system. They assured that steps would be taken to prevent similar false complaints in the future. The incident will also be reported to higher authorities for further review.

As of now, Rapido has not issued any public statements regarding the matter.
