Bengaluru Woman Accuses Rapido Driver of Harassment, Police Call It False
A 21-year-old dubbing artist from Bengaluru has accused a Rapido bike taxi driver of harassing her during a ride. However, police claim her complaint is fabricated and filed with “malicious intent.”
Allegations Against the Rapido Driver
The woman, originally from Kolar district, has been living in Hoodi, KR Puram, Bengaluru, with a friend. She works as a dubbing artist in Jakkur. According to her complaint, she booked a Rapido ride on October 30 from Jakkur to Babusapalya. She alleged that the driver, identified as Manjunath Thippeswamy, 25, groped her on the Hennur service road around 10:30 PM. She claimed he touched her inappropriately before she managed to escape.
The complaint was registered the next day at Hennur police station under IPC Section 354A for sexual harassment.
Police Investigation Reveals False Complaint
Upon investigating, the police found inconsistencies in the woman’s claims. According to an officer at Hennur police station, the ride in question never took place. The records showed that the booking was canceled before the journey even began.
“She did not travel in the mentioned vehicle. We have verified the trip history, and her claims are false. It appears that she had personal issues with Rapido and filed the complaint with bad intentions,” the police officer stated.
Legal Action Against False Allegations
The police expressed frustration over the false complaint, stating that it wasted valuable time and resources. They are considering further action against the woman to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As of now, Rapido has not issued an official statement regarding the allegations. The matter is expected to be reported to higher authorities for necessary legal steps.
