The Delhi Crime Branch has uncovered horrifying details in the Anjan Das murder case, revealing a gruesome act committed by his wife Poonam and her son Deepak.
According to Special CP Crime Ravinder Yadav, Anjan Das was murdered before June 5, the date when his mutilated body parts were found inside a bag at Ramlila Ground in Kalyanpuri, East Delhi.
Investigations revealed that Poonam confessed to killing Das after she discovered that he was already married and had sold her jewellery to send money to his first wife and eight children living in Bihar. She also alleged that Das had inappropriate intentions toward her daughter and daughter-in-law, which pushed her and her son to plan the murder.
Deepak, her son, told the police that Das harassed his wife, and so he agreed to take part in the plan.
The mother and son reportedly executed their plan in June. They first spiked Das’s drink, and once he became unconscious, they killed him. They kept the body at home overnight so the blood could dry, and the next day, Deepak chopped up the body and stored the parts in plastic bags inside a fridge.
Later, the body parts were disposed of piece by piece, but a strong odor began coming from the house. To hide the smell, they got the house painted. However, neighbors complained about the odor, prompting a police investigation.
After recovering the body parts, police conducted door-to-door checks and reviewed CCTV footage. The remains were later identified as belonging to Anjan Das. Suspicion grew as Poonam and Deepak never reported him missing, even though he had been gone for six months.
Police later arrested Poonam from her Trilokpuri residence, where she admitted to the crime. She claimed that Das had bad intentions toward her children and said, “My son killed him with a knife. I didn’t do it.”
Further investigation revealed that Poonam was first married at 14 to Sukhdev Tiwari, who later left her. She moved to Delhi and lived with a man named Kallu before meeting and marrying Anjan Das in 2017. Kallu had died in 2016 due to liver failure.
Poonam claimed she was unaware of Das’s first family in Bihar when they married. Das, a lift operator by profession, had sold her jewellery to support his other family, police added. The murder plot reportedly began in April.
So far, police have recovered six body parts, and CCTV footage shows Poonam and Deepak frequently entering and exiting a deserted plot of land, strengthening the case against them.
