Allahabad High Court Orders CBI Probe Into False Rape Cases Filed by Woman and Lawyer
The Allahabad High Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate a woman and her lawyer for allegedly filing multiple false rape and criminal cases to extort money from men.
A bench of Justices Brij Raj Singh and Vivek Chaudhary passed the order while hearing a plea for protection from arrest by one of the accused in the case. The Court noted that the woman, Pooja Rawat, along with her lawyer, Advocate Parmanand Gupta, had a pattern of filing false complaints against several individuals.
The bench observed:
“It is clear that the informant and her counsel are in collusion with each other and have lodged false FIRs against many people for serious offences only to extract money. The present FIR is also lodged with the same intent, to create pressure.”
Pattern of False Cases
According to the petitioners, the woman had already filed 11 FIRs earlier, and the present one was her 12th complaint, all with similar allegations. All her complaints were reportedly filed through the same lawyer.
The State counsel also confirmed that the lawyer had filed several such FIRs and criminal cases against different people.
The latest case was registered on January 30 under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act. The petitioners had approached the High Court to quash the FIR and sought protection from arrest and coercive action.
CBI Investigation Ordered
Considering the seriousness of the issue, the High Court directed the CBI to conduct an inquiry and submit its report by April 10. In the meantime, the petitioners have been granted protection from arrest.
